Pain Management Track
Recent studies have shown that there is an increased need to assist people who are dealing with chronic pain issues and are using high dosages of narcotic prescription medication. For many people, the use of these medications has become as problematic as dealing with the chronic pain issue itself. Other people may struggle with a reoccurring cycle of stopping and returning to addictive use due to high risk situations caused by the need to manage pain.
Whiteside Manor, Inc. has begun a Pain Management track with these individuals in mind. We use various non-pharmacological interventions that are individualized to the clients’ needs and interests (e.g. hypnotherapy and meditation services, exercise regimen, personal trainer).
Services are provided both in group and individual settings and can occur on a Residential or Outpatient basis, depending on the outcome of the initial assessment. The goal is for all clients to achieve abstinence from narcotic medications, to increase their ability to manage chronic pain symptoms with other non-pharmacological/alternative methodology and identify and manage high risk situations that lead to the return to active addiction.
Aftercare
In order to provide a complete, supportive continuum of care, Whiteside Manor provides a weekly Aftercare program for graduates at no cost. The aftercare program consists of a weekly group facilitated by an experienced counselor who helps guide clients in their recovery efforts, assisting them in meeting the goals contained in their continuing care plans. Aftercare is a forum in which clients may explore success, obstacles and day to day issues that confront them, receiving feedback and support from the group facilitator and other participants. In addition, graduates are encouraged to participate in relapse prevention groups, 12-Step meetings in the community and reside in Sober-Living Homes when appropriate.
Psychological Testing Services
Whiteside Manor, Inc. provides an array of Psychological Testing services, for an additional fee, for prospective clients who may need further clarity about psychological and intellectual functioning. We have found that these testing services are useful to establish a more individually tailored care plan and discharge plan. The testing services offered are listed below:

Clinical Hypnotherapy
We offer the services of a Certified Hypnotherapist to assist with stress management, for help with desired behavior changes, phobias, insomnia, the ability to detach from external distractions. Clinical Hypnotherapy works in partnership with the doctor's prescribed method of treatment for releasing or managing the stress of many conditions. This service is, of course, optional and at no cost.
Health and Recreation
We believe that healthy recreation is of the utmost importance to a client's lifestyle. We also stress exercise. Cinema, bowling, beach and mountain trips are just a few of the activities offered. A basketball court and volleyball court and pool tables are available on-site and circuit training at a local gym is available five days a week for members of our rehab programs. Trained professionals supervise circuit training.
CARF requires a healthy dietary balance. We have gone one step further and employed a chef to oversee all meals. Members of our drug and alcohol rehab programs are offered vegetarian fare and Heart-Smart diets.
Boot camp program
Boot camp at Whiteside Manor promotes discipline, structure and positive character traits. A certified fitness trainer works with each Volunteer four days per week for one hour. Exercise in this regimen has been shown to be effective in substance abuse therapy. However, like any Program of this type, the benefit is dependent upon each participating client's commitment and desire to improve.
Again, Boot Camp is purely voluntary and at no extra cost.
Whiteside Manor offers a dual diagnosis track, meaning it works with clients who suffer from chemical dependency and mental health issues, such as depression and anxiety. Studies show that exercise can ease the symptoms of depression and anxiety (1). Learning healthy coping mechanisms, such as exercise, is an important component of Boot camp.
